History of painting in Liège - Lot 51
History of painting in Liège
Under the aegis of Prince-Bishop Charles François de Velbruck, the country's first painting academy was founded in Liège in 1775. In 1835, it became the Académie Royale des Beaux-arts de Liège under the direction of Barthelemy Vieillevoye. An ardent and independent city, Liège was and remains the crucible of a production as original as it was abundant.
